12 Volt Relay Wiring Diagram Symbols

By | January 9, 2023

To make a 12 volt relay wiring diagram, you’ll need to know the symbols used. Symbols represent components like transistors, diodes, and resistance values, which are required to construct the circuit.

Beginning electronic enthusiasts often get confused when they come across diagrams with so many symbols, particularly if they’re unfamiliar with the symbols used. To make the process easier, we’ve broken down the symbols used in 12 volt relay wiring diagrams.

The most common symbol seen in 12 volt relay wiring diagrams is the “x” symbol. This symbol represents a connection between two components. Generally, “x” denotes an electrical contact that needs to be made to complete the circuit. A circle with a diagonal line through it denotes a connection that's been broken.

The next series of symbols you’ll find on 12 volt relay wiring diagrams are those for components. For example, a semicircle with a dot in the middle stands for a diode, while a triangle with a line through it represents a transistor. Electric motors are represented by a diamond-shaped symbol, while a triangle with a plus sign denotes an LED.

Lastly, there are symbols that represent the resistance values in a circuit. These symbols can appear on their own or as part of a group. A single triangle with a flat bottom usually denotes 1 ohm, while two triangles together with a flat bottom usually stand for 10 ohms. A triangular group with a flat bottom and two rectangular sides usually means 100 ohms.

By familiarizing yourself with 12 volt relay wiring diagram symbols, you’ll be able to interpret diagrams and create the circuits they represent. With some practice and patience, you’ll soon get the hang of reading these diagrams.
